In this exceptional documentary series Sir Trevor McDonald gets an exclusive insight into one of the most dangerous and notorious prisons in the US. There are over 1900 prisoners in Indiana State prison – most of them in for murder. Twelve of these... men are on death row and are due to be executed here on the orders of the State. Superintendent Bill Wilson takes Sir Trevor on his weekly tour of death row where twelve men reside. Here Sir Trevor meets cop killer Benjamin Ritchie who tells him how he’s a danger to society and shouldn’t be released. In the most dangerous cell house in the prison – the segregation unit – Sir Trevor meets one of the prisons most fascinating inmates. Ronald Sanford committed double murder at the age of thirteen. He was incarcerated at 15 years old and has spent over twenty years educating himself, but the reality is that he will most likely end his life here.

Sir Trevor McDonald also returns to Indiana State Prison. His second week begins back on Death Row where 12 men are locked in their cells for 23 hours a day. Here he meets Frederick Baer. His crime – the murder of a mother and her young daughter. As he does his daily exercise routine he tells Sir Trevor about his girlfriend in Germany and how his appeals are coming to an end. Superintendent Bill Wilson then takes Sir Trevor to the death chamber – where all executions in Indiana State prison take place by the lethal injection. He tells him of his personal experiences of the executions he’s done in the past and reflects on the extraordinary task that he is responsible of.
