The Insider sees TV presenter Reggie Yates live life for real inside some of the world’s most brutal institutions.
Series 1:
In Texas, Reggie eats, sleeps and works alongside the inmates of Bexar County Jail, stripped of all his... belongings and outside privileges to better understand life as a prisoner in a state where 1 in 20 adults is under criminal justice control. In Mexico, he travels to Acapulco – once a tourist paradise frequented by Hollywood starlets, now the 4th most dangerous city in the world – to join up with Unit 27 of the 56th Infantry Battalion fighting the brutal war against the country’s powerful and violent drug cartels.
Series 2:
The refugee crisis is one of the defining issues of our time. Now, Reggie is about to enter a refugee camp, spending 5 days inside the Domiz Refugee camp in Iraq to experience what it’s really like to be a migrant. Established 2012 the camp is 60km from the Syrian border and currently houses 30,000 migrants. Next Reggie is going to experience prison life from the other side, working as a guard in a US jail and learning about the pressures faced by people whose job it is to control some of the most dangerous men in society. Finally Reggie is lives and works amongst the extraordinary communities in and around Accra, Ghana. He’ll be learning more about the recycling projects that support residents living in the Accra slums and in particular Agbogbloshie, which is home to one of the largest e-waste sites in the world.
