This is a half-hour returnable comedy about a ramshackle house and the ramshackle family who have always gathered there. Only now it’s up for sale, will the family stick together?
'The Family Pile’, of the title, is a big Victorian... semi in the suburbs of Merseyside, which has been home to the same family for generations - and none of them ever moved their stuff out.
Our four sisters - Nicole, Ursula, Yvette and youngest sibling Gaynor; have just inherited the place after the sad death of their Mum (six months after their Dad). Now it’s on the market, it feels like the end of an era - it’s where the family have celebrated every Christmas, every Birthday and every other excuse for a family get-together. It’s been what connects them. The show always takes place here, in the old family home. And because the house belongs to all the sisters, but is occupied by none, we’re never quite sure who we’re going to find there. Or why.
A place for secret meetings, or for someone rowing with their family to hide out, a place where no one is in charge. They bring with them their dramas, the happy, the sad and the frankly unpredictable. Once we get to know and love the family, we’ll be just as reluctant to see the house sold as they are. As chaotic as it is, it's the glue that keeps them all together.
