In this ground breaking and revelatory new documentary format, Piers Morgan comes face to face with Paris Bennett: a criminal more intelligent, more cunning and more manipulative than any of those he has encountered before.
In 2007, aged
... just 13, Paris - a highly intelligent boy with a near genius level IQ - stabbed to death his 4-year old sister, Ella. But this was no fit of rage or bout of malicious teenage impulsivity. It was instead a cold, calculated and deliberate act, planned in Paris’s head for weeks beforehand. His intention: to inflict untold pain and misery on his mother, Charity. Child psychiatrists found Paris to be completely without conscience or remorse for his crime. He was branded a psychopath.
As Piers probes his recollections of the night of the murder, Paris utilises every ounce of his intellect to paint himself in the best light possible: a reformed character who deserves redemption. With intrigue, revelation and flashes of classic psychopathic traits at every turn (expertly picked apart by a former FBI profiler and a leading criminologist watching the interview live) the interview is a tense, electric encounter with Paris giving as good as he gets.
The emotional heart of the film is Charity and her decision to stand by her son – a decision which has won her admiration and vilification in equal measure. How does a mother react when faced with this tragic situation? How does she feel having given birth to a violent psychopath?
Child psychologists have told Charity to cut all ties with Paris – and even change her identity – as they believe he has the capacity to kill again, all the more so as Charity has since become a mother a third time to Paris’s 5 year old half-brother Phoenix. If Paris could target Ella 12 years ago, could Phoenix one day become a target in another bid to hurt Charity?
Paris, now 25, will one day be set free. He is serving a 40 year sentence for his crime in a maximum security prison in central Texas, but by the time he is 53 – if not before – he will walk out the prison gates and back into society. A prospect that Charity admits she fears. | Download flyer
