An environmentally conscious campaign format focusing on a global issue of waste.

Our host is on a local campaign to reduce waste. We live in a throwaway society. Millions of people are struggling to pay their food bills but a third of... all the food we produce never gets eaten. The series aims to stop not only the big corporations throwing edible food away but challenge individuals to waste less at home, giving top suggestions for viewers wanting a greener life...

In a 9 week experiment the host starts by going undercover in a suburban street as a bin man or woman – examining what the street threw out including items that should have been recycled. The host challenges them to reduce their waste, giving them helpful take home tips including recipes. They convert the sceptics by taking them on a tour of a materials recovery centre to show them what happens to their recycled materials and knowledge of what products are manufactured with recycled products (e.g. clothing). At the end of the experiment they throw a street party (made with salvaged food found in supermarket bins)!

For the corporate angle the host asks are our supermarkets and restaurants throwing out edible food? Are they pressurising local farmers with cosmetic standards on fruit & veg? Should this food not be re-distributed? They examine what the facts are and challenge the corporations to change their ways.

Can we encourage big businesses to waste less? And can we all learn to waste less ourselves?
