JAMES MAY EXAMINES HUMAN ANATOMY FOR 5
18 August
Plum Pictures preps series on how the human body works. James May is re-teaming with Plum Pictures to examine the complexity of the human body in a four-part series for 5.
In James May: The Human Machine Plum and the presenter will turn their focus onto the intricacies of the human body and how every part works together to make it work.
May will explain how millions of years of evolution have resulted in an ingenious series of systems that work together to keep us alive, from the engine-room stomach to the wiring of the nerves, the air-pump lungs and the fuel-pump heart, and even including nostril hair and eyelashes.
He will also look at how a cold or an injury can derail the whole system, and how the science of medicine has progressed to cure these ailments, from ancient potions and amputations to cutting edge technology, such as robot surgeons, 3D-printed organs and microscopic medical marvels.
It marks the latest specialist factual collaboration between Plum, the presenter and 5 following James Mays Great Explorers for the PSB earlier this year.
The Human Machine was commissioned by Guy Davies, consultant editor for commissioning at 5, with Will Daws exec producing for Plum, and Catrina Lear series producing. Davies said: James has a unique knack for making complex subjects both entertaining and enlightening and the human body will be no exception. Though our discussions about fartings place in the series have yet to be resolved.
May said that the human body is the most remarkable machine, built of components designed to keep us moving around.
He added: As someone interested in how things work, Ill be taking it apart to see how it ticks. Its a miracle any of us makes it beyond breakfast.
