Spin-off of long-running panel show set to air later this year.

The BBC has given the green light to Hat Trick's spin-off panel show Have I Got Sport For You, Broadcast understands.

Having been in development earlier this year, filming is set to commence next month and a show is set to air later this year on BBC1. It is understood to be a comedy review of the sporting year featuring high profile comedic and sporting talent.

Broadcast had previously revealed that Hat Trick was developing the sporting spin-off of the indies long-running panel series Have I Got News For You, the hit topical panel show which has been running since 1990, airing for 68 series thus far.

Have I Got Sport For You has also been commissioned out of the BBC entertainment department and is expected to follow a similar format to the original series which sees a celebrity host put questions to two teams, led by team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton.
Have I Got News For You has featured high profile comedians such as James Acaster and Jo Brand as well as political commentators such as Boris Johnson, Diane Abbott and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Previous sporting personalities that have featured on the show have included Gary Lineker and Gary Neville who have starred as hosts. It has not been confirmed which talent will be appearing on the show.

Hat Trick has also taken the original Have I Got News for You internationally, with the first US-iteration of the series currently airing on CNN and produced by Jimmy Mulville, Richard Wilson and Jim Biederman.
