AWARD-WINNING BBC COMEDY SMOGGIE QUEENS HEADS TO MIPCOM FOR SERIES 3
05 October

Hat Trick International takes acclaimed British sitcom to the international market following acquisitions by Disney+ for the UK and BINGE & Foxtel for Australia.

London, Monday 5th October 2026: Hat Trick International (HTI) is taking award-winning BBC comedy Smoggie Queens to MIPCOM, with Series 3 joining its international slate following the BBCs recommission of the hit Hat Trick Productions sitcom.

Created and written by RTS Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated Middlesbrough native Phil Dunning, Smoggie Queens follows a fiercely proud group of friends and their small pocket of the LGBTQ+ community in Middlesbrough. Combining razor-sharp humour, outrageous characters and huge heart, the series has become one of the most distinctive new voices in British comedy.

The first two series have already secured international distribution, with Disney+ acquiring both series for the UK, with Series 1 launching later this year and Season 2 in 2027 as well as BINGE & Foxtel acquiring Series 1 and 2 for Australia.

Sarah Tong, Director of Sales at Hat Trick International, said: British comedy is iconic around the world, and Hat Trick has created some of the most enduring comedy of the past few decades, from Father Ted and Episodes to Derry Girls. Comedy can be one of the toughest genres to sell internationally, but Smoggie Queens is bold, original and genuinely laugh-out-loud. Were delighted to take Series 3 to MIPCOM and introduce this brilliant British comedy to audiences around the world.

Smoggie Queens (18 x 30) is a Hat Trick Production for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. The series was commissioned by Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy. The Commissioning Editor is Gregor Sharp and the Series Producer is Chris Jones. Worldwide distribution is handled by Hat Trick International.
